Actually, the gun in the second picture looks like a Russian D30 122mm Howitzer to me. Note the three legged carrage, tow-hook on the muzzle-brake, and the sheet-metal cover on the recuperation cyclinders over the barrel.
You know, I think you're right. I'll change the caption.
Thanks.

Aha, LT! Why were you hiding these pics? Conspiracy in the Pentagon! Was it lack of leadership that led you to humiliate that poor Mr. Hussein?

I'm appalled at these pictures! Who knew that U.S. soldiers treated Iraqis so shabbily. I hope you have sent these pix to Reuters so this scandal can make the early morning news. Disgraceful

Thanks, LT. I know I speak for legions of citizens when I offer my gratitude for your service (both in the field on on the blog!!).

Jeez, Smash, how'd you manage to stay so pasty-white in that hot desert sun? And I thought *I* was the whitest white person on earth!
Most Iraqis have adopted the American meaning of the "thumbs up" gesture since the first Gulf War. The vulgar usage of the gesture has lost all meaning to the younger generations.
These kids were definitely happy to see us, I assure you. They mobbed around our vehicles, cheering and waving. I gave them some candy, and a couple of bottles of water.
Hey LT - I've been reading Arabic for about 14 years now - and that graffiti is tough to slog through. I'm printing out a bigger copy of the pic, will let you know if I can figure it out.
